…Mary Potter Kenyon.  Carter drew her name from the jar, and I am pleased to send her a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Women. She has been a blessing to me since I spent 12 hours in a car with her last June to and from a writer’s conference in Chicago. You can become fast-friends when you are in an enclosed space for such a long period of time. 🙂 She is a terrific writer whom God has taken through some deep valleys of grief. I’ve been awol from the online world for a week doing adventurous things like leaping off this rocky ledge into the shockingly cold waters of Lake Superior. Brave Carter was the ringleader, but all five of us took our turn. (Even Lewis hopped in to Corey’s waiting arms. Corey wins the award for being in the frigid water the longest.) By the way, the average temperature of Lake Superior in August is 55 degrees. One jump was enough for me.

The reality is – Through the Holy Spirit dwelling in me I can experience peace even in uncertain and uncomfortable circumstances. The reality is –  Because of God’s great love, I am continually on the receiving end of gifts of grace. The reality is –  because Christ took on human form and  gave himself up for me, I have hope in the knowledge that God cares about my life here on earth and ultimately my eternal future. “Our trouble begins when we forget these realities and concentrate on our inadequacies, our fears, and all other manifestations of our smallness.”  (the late…
