The Stuff of Life

Boho – I Think No

I’m kind of into houses. I love to look at the outside of a house and imagine what the inside looks like. I love to walk through houses. And it turns out my hubby is pretty good at designing houses. Hooked On Houses is one of my favorite blogs. Julie gives virtual tours of movie set houses, celebrity houses and houses that are just cool or quirky.  On her latest post, she had a link to Stylescope at  The post shows the photo above, and asks you to click on your five favorites. Then it is supposed to tell you your style. I was curious, so I tried.  Here’s what I picked.

1.  The & sign.

2. the flipflops

3. the coffee drink

4. the stack of logs

5. the pink flower.

The style type those choices generated? BOHO –

Boho isn’t just carefree. She’s adventurous and passionate, loving color and new and unusual uses for things. She’s into the Revamp, Reuse, and Recycle, and she can’t get enough of foraging for a good deal while mixing and matching silk-and-knit textures and vibrant colors anywhere she can.

I do like to forage for a good deal, but looking at that photo, I’d say they got me all wrong. I don’t think I’m a boho girl. But we do have a fantabulous gal – Mara – living in our basement right now, and I’d say it’s very possible she’s BOHO, so maybe she’s rubbing off on me.

Maybe you want to give it a try. See how they label you. And let me know how it turns out. (Just click on the word Stylescope below the top photo.)

  1. I was classified as “Classic: Classic knows there’s a place for everything—and everything belongs in its place. She’s a perfectly tailored dress. A smooth, 4-tiered wedding cake. And she imbues her sense of structure with a graceful elegance, an undisturbed calm, and of course, an irrefutable beauty.”

Part of it seems accurate – I am very much a “place for everything – and everything belongs in its place” person, but it doesn’t always look that way. And, I am certainly not a perfectly tailored dress – lol. More like jeans and sweatshirt! It says I entertain like this: “Fill crystal centerpieces with faux or real roses. Perfectly set silver and china accompany very crisp, tailored linens.” HA! DEFINITELY NOT!

There was no category for Ecclectic but I think that would be more my style! 🙂

  2. Thanks Kim, that was fun! I think I could be about 5 or 6 of these depending on how I feel someday. I am Set Sail and a touch of Boho. I would say my home reflects neither of those.

Set Sail is as laid back as a warm breeze off the ocean. She’s inspired by sun-washed blues, soft, sandy whites, nostalgi, nautical stripes, and coastal elements. She saturates her home-and thus, those around her-with a sense of calm so palpable you’re almost sitting dockside when you visit her.

I have heard this store Home Goods is a great store with good prices. I have not been able to go to one yet. I know they are in Minnesota. I would like to visit one someday soon. I will take this test another day and see what I come up with.

  3. “Spa Life” with a yoga studio and buddha statues. Now way– that’s NOT me.

  4. oops—I meant “no way” not “now way”.

  5. I’m BOHO too, with totally different pictures & a touch of new country. That is probably closer to me. But I never fit in a normal category on things like this! I picked the flower, beach, wood, lights & something else? Have a good day!

  6. Looks like I’m not the only one that it didn’t label quite right. It was fun trying anyway 🙂

  7. I’m classic, too. I think that is more how I would like to be. But I have three kids. Not a chance right now! 🙂

  8. Ok so it says I’m sassy and a touch boho..bright colors… And can’t remember what else now. I DO like bright colors..that was fun! Jan–Buddha figures? Not you!!:)
