I am an author speaker and part-time library assistant with a degree in English: Literary Studies, from Iowa State University. When I’m not writing books, reading books, repairing books or shelving books in the library stacks, I love to watch Iowa State Cyclone sports and Minnesota Vikings football with my husband of 26 years, Corey, and any of our three sons who decide to join us. I also love to travel, and I let my pup take me for a walk twice a day, rain or shine.
Life Reconstructed: Navigating the Word of Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction (Familius 2021, Credo 2024) was my first book. My second book, Carried Through Cancer: 70 Days of Spiritual Strength from Cancer Fighters, Survivors and Caregivers (B&H Publishing) will release on September 30, 2025. A two-time breast cancer survivor, my initial diagnosis in 2016 was a springboard for my Life Reconstructed. My second manuscript was completed not long after finishing active treatment for my second cancer diagnosis. I consider it a joy and an honor to encourage other women who are facing the hard and often lonely road of cancer. This website it one of my avenues to do that.
I was first diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma on January 20, 2016; one month to the day after my 40th birthday. My second diagnosis came on January 27, 2023. The same type of cancer, but this time Stage 2A. I’ve undergone a bilateral mastectomy, reconstruction surgeries, an implant replacement surgery, a hysterectomy, and oophorectomy, 7 years of Tamoxifen, 4 rounds of AC (Adriamycin -the RED DEVIL, Cytoxin), 12 rounds of T (Taxol), and 5 weeks of radiation. I’m currently on a 10-year prescription of an aromatase inhibitor, and 2 years of a targeted therapy called Verzenio.
Cancer is a huge part of my world, but it doesn’t define me. My Savior Jesus gives me hope even in the hard things, and my relationship with Corey, with my boys and with other family and friends whom I love very much keep me focused on the positives in my life. And there are a lot of positives.
