I am an author speaker and part-time library assistant with a degree in English: Literary Studies, from Iowa State University. When I’m not writing books, reading books, repairing books or shelving books in the library stacks, I love to watch Iowa State Cyclone sports and Minnesota Vikings football with my husband of 27 years, Corey, and any of our three sons who decide to join us.  I also love to travel, and I let my pup take me for a walk twice a day, rain or shine.

My newest book, Carried Through Cancer (B&H 2025) is a series of 70 bite-sized stories of a real God meeting real women in really hard places.

A two-time breast cancer survivor, my initial diagnosis in 2016 was a springboard for my first book, Life Reconstructed: Navigating the World of Mastectomies and Breast Reconstruction.

I consider it a joy and an honor to encourage other women who are facing the hard and often lonely road of cancer. This website it one of my avenues to do that.

My Cancer Specifics for the cancer nerds out there:

  • Diagnosis 1, Age 40: January 20, 2016, Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma
  • Treatment: Bilateral Mastectomy, Breast Reconstruction, Tamoxifen, Hysterectomy
  • Diagnosis 2, Age 47: January 27, 2023, Stage 2A Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (presented as a lump in my armpit)
  • Treatment: 4 Rounds AC (Adriamycin – The “Red Devil”, Cytoxin), 12 Rounds T (Taxol), 25 Rounds of Radiation, oophorectomy, 2 years of Verzenio, 10-years of an aromatase inhibitor

Cancer is a huge part of my world, but it doesn’t define me. My Savior Jesus gives me hope even in the hard things, and my relationship with Corey, with my boys and with other family and friends whom I love very much keep me focused on the positives in my life. And there are a lot of positives.
