January 6th was my deadline for my contribution to the TCW devotional book, Sanctuary For My Soul. January 9th I found a lump in my breast. January 20th I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My devotion quickly forgotten, (along with pretty much every other non-essential part of my life), I was shoved into a daily struggle to trust in God’s plan for me. I didn’t doubt God’s goodness or love for me on January 9 or January 20. But I didn’t like where he was taking me. (That’s an understatement by the way.) Over the past few months I have felt…

I didn’t keep track of exactly how many books I read this year, but I read 3.5 while my kids were on Christmas break if that gives you an idea 🙂 I’ve compiled a list of my favorites for the year. Mary and Me, A Lasting Link Through Ink chronicles the lives of Mary Potter Kenyon and Mary Jedlicka Humston. The two have been pen-pals for more than three decades, and their friendship quite literally grew on pieces of paper. I am a book addict. My sons are not as of yet, but we read together at night (Well, most nights. They go to bed so darn late in the summer that sometimes I’m too tired to make sense of words on a page.) The following is a list I handed out at my Grace Women’s Retreat workshop on Saturday. It is a mix of books I’ve read with the boys and books I’d like to read at some point. I focus on finding books with strong male characters of integrity. The list includes a variety of genres and includes…

I enjoy fiction. But when it’s fiction passed off as truth? Not so much. A big thanks to a blog reader who pointed out that A Million Little Pieces is a fake. The author promoted the book as his life story, but it is filled with lies. When I did a little research, I realized this was quite a big story in 2006. So big that Oprah kicked it out of her book club and had some choice words to say about the author. You can read about that in this New York Times article. Author Kicked Out of Oprah’s…
