Straight. Paved. And well lit. (Preferably with cute Narnia lampposts every 50 feet or so.) That is what I wish the path from where I am now to the place where God wants me to be looked like. Corey and I recently made some significant changes in our life. Necessary but hard changes. And it’s easy for me to get caught up in wondering where God is taking me and how the heck I’m gonna get there. Are we doing the right things? Are we leading our kids the way they need to be led? Are we willing to give…
When mom learned that Anne Graham Lotz was diagnosed with breast cancer, she found an address and sent her a set of pillows, not even positive they would get to her. Not long after, she received this hand-written thank you in the mail. How sweet is that? Don’t know Anne Graham Lotz? She’s the daughter of Reverend Billy Graham and you can read some of her breast cancer story on her website annegrahamlotz.org Mom and her friends have sent pillows to women in 40 states and have supplied pillows and/or seatbelt covers to medical clinics in 5 states. When…
Life is hitting me pretty hard these days, so I’ve kind of been MIA. But today I need to share one quick little story from my family’s backpacking trip this summer. And I’m going to break my own rule of NEVER posting a first draft. (I’ll probably regret it tomorrow.) Around mile 13 of our marathon 14.5 mile day on the Superior Hiking Trail, after hiking for more than 10 hours in sweltering heat, my poor…
We have sent FREE mastectomy pillows to individuals in 39 states and medical centers in four states. My mom and her friends (The Bosom Buddies) get together regularly to sew pillows to give to women in need. In fact, they have a sewing day planned this week. The lovely woman pictured above is one our our pillow recipients. She received her pillow through the Hoffberger Breast Center in Baltimore, Maryland. If you or someone you know could use these pillows, you can find a contact form on my FREE MASTECTOMY PILLOWS page. (Please remember to include a mailing address with…
I was 40 and already had a head of prematurely gray hair (I hide it well) when Dr. Testroet called with the crappy cancer news, but the following words from Jen Wilkin’s 27-year-old experience ring true inside of me. Once you hear a cancer diagnosis, you can’t unhear it. Even with successful treatment, it changes the way you number your days. I had been given an opportunity not many 27-year-olds could claim: the opportunity to count each of my days as precious. Any illusions I might have had that this life would last forever were effectively removed. I learned a…
