My 8-year-old son spends his summers polka-dotted. No joke. His olive skin easily tans, but patches on his arms, legs, neck and sometimes even his face get scaly, itchy and flaky, leaving him spotted. We’ve treated this with a variety of eczema prescriptions and over-the-counter solutions since he was an iddy-biddy guy. At a recent dermatologist visit, I was told he has Tinea Versicolor. So we’ve started some more medications and treatments (results are still pending.) I’ve been making this body cream for Lewis for a couple years, and it’s been great. Primarily because he doesn’t cry out in pain when…
I enjoy fiction. But when it’s fiction passed off as truth? Not so much. A big thanks to a blog reader who pointed out that A Million Little Pieces is a fake. The author promoted the book as his life story, but it is filled with lies. When I did a little research, I realized this was quite a big story in 2006. So big that Oprah kicked it out of her book club and had some choice words to say about the author. You can read about that in this New York Times article. Author Kicked Out of Oprah’s…
What happens when you go to a writer’s conference is you come home with a brain that is about to explode and a new list of books you want to read. (Some people are addicted to chocolate or exercise or alcohol. I’m addicted to books…) Needless to say, I had to add to my previous summer reading list, and I thought maybe some book addict out there would be interested. (I’ve put a dent in my original reading list by the way. The Kitchen House may be my favorite story of the year.) So, here it is, the addendum to my…
I’m happy to have a devo at christiandevotions.us today. If that devotion brought you to this site, welcome. I love checking out the stock photos that go with my devos and articles online. You never know what you are gonna get. In the instance of The Cheese Confession, it’s a photo of a really cute kid, but it’s not my kid. Below is the wild, crazy and wonderful kid whose cheese confession turned into a devotion. The Cheese Confession By : Kim Harms It was the night before parent-teacher conference that our kindergartener, Lewis, nervously made his cheese confession. “Mom, I…
Tonight begins Middle School Moms group at my house. (I know it’s a terribly creative name isn’t it?) As I sit wondering about the moms I’m going to get to know better and the kids I’m going to have the opportunity to pray for this summer, I am reminded of this poem I wrote a couple years ago. A poem about a little boy who still lives in the world where holding mama’s hand in public is as natural as giggling with his friends. I have one boy who holds my hand still, but time moves fast, and middle-schoolers love their mama in…
