I’ve been awol from the online world for a week doing adventurous things like leaping off this rocky ledge into the shockingly cold waters of Lake Superior. Brave Carter was the ringleader, but all five of us took our turn. (Even Lewis hopped in to Corey’s waiting arms. Corey wins the award for being in the frigid water the longest.) By the way, the average temperature of Lake Superior in August is 55 degrees. One jump was enough for me.
The reality is – Through the Holy Spirit dwelling in me I can experience peace even in uncertain and uncomfortable circumstances. The reality is – Because of God’s great love, I am continually on the receiving end of gifts of grace. The reality is – because Christ took on human form and gave himself up for me, I have hope in the knowledge that God cares about my life here on earth and ultimately my eternal future. “Our trouble begins when we forget these realities and concentrate on our inadequacies, our fears, and all other manifestations of our smallness.” (the late…
If you’ve been reading 26 Letters for a while, you have met Alphonsine. She has shared bits of her story of surviving and overcoming the horrors of the 1994 Rwandan genocide and of God’s awesome provision in her adult life. Alphonsine now lives and works in the US and has a passion to use her life experience to help others. The primary goal of her non-profit organization Rising Above the Storms (R.A.S.) is to “reach out, encourage and inspire people who are hurting, abandoned, or challenged in life in any way. We aim to bring hope and motivation to rebuild a brighter and more positive tomorrow.”…
Disclaimer: I have not hopped on the zombie train. I’m easily freaked out and living-dead-people-who-want-to-eat-my-brains aren’t really my thing. I do, however, think the minecraft zombies are kind of cute in a weird sort of way. That said, I was browsing amazon the other day looking for books for my boys. They are really into graphic novels (along with almost every other preteen in the world). I came across this graphic novel called Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb and couldn’t resist the $2.99 kindle price. I like to read (or at least skim) books by new authors before I introduce…
1. Pee outside. Seriously, this is the view from the commode at our first potty break. I doubt there’s a 5-star hotel out there that can boast of a view like this from the toilet. 2. Bathe in deet. It feels like it anyway. Nothing like rubbing 98% deet all over every exposed part of my body to fend off armies of killer mosquitos. 3. Drink water that looks like this. Filtered from Cross River, Corey assured me it was safe to drink. I trusted him and survived, so I guess he was telling the truth. 4. Get very excited…
