Since my oldest son has inherited his daddy’s love of sweets, and I’d prefer if his teeth don’t all rot and fall out, I’ve been trying out a variety of granola bar recipes for semi-healthy snacking.  I’ve had a few people ask me for the recipes we’ve been using, so I thought I’d post them here for you to try. We eat all of these, but I’m listing them in order of favorite to least favorite. Chewy Granola Energy Bars 2 ½ cups quick oatmeal ¾ cup Rice Krispies ½ cup mini chocolate chips 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup slivered almonds…

The following one of my devos is the April 24 devotion in The Secret Place. (It’s based on my Wallflower or Wildflower post from last year, so the content may be familiar to some of you.) James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift comes from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. We catch our reflection in the mirror and see our mousey brown hair and our body shape that has always made us insecure, and we think we were meant to fade into the crowd. It’s easy to believe that the…

He is risen. You know that’s right.   Pretty certain that’s how Burton Guster would spin the age old Easter Sunday phrase if he were to attend church with you this weekend. 😉 (If that name doesn’t mean anything to you, you are missing out on one of the best TV shows ever.)   Philippians 2:5-11 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God,     did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing     by taking the very nature of a servant,     being made in…

As I admired all the beautiful prom dresses at church today, I was reminded that I will never help a daughter prepare for a formal. And I thought of several reasons why that is probably a very good thing. 1. I have never had nor do I ever plan to get a pedicure. 2. I’ve had one professional manicure: the day before my wedding. 3. I own exactly 2 purses. The gray one I bought at Goodwill, and the black one I’ve had since college. 4. I own one necklace, three rings and four pairs of earrings. 5. All of my make-up (except for the…

It was all because of the flying cheese. I was tucking my little man into bed when he made his cheese confession. “Mom, I forgot to tell you something.” (Lewis, who shares pretty much every detail of his every day life with me, “forgot” to tell me something…my ears perked up immediately.) “What’s that buddy?” “I had to go to the principal’s office today.” If my youngest had had previous incidents involving disobedience and disruptive behavior in school, this may have upset me a little bit. But as he is a pretty well-behaved, albeit un-Harms-ishly social six-year-old, I was more intrigued…
